The most effective diet pills can be hard to find. Everybody talks about diet pills as if they are complicated. But of course, they have the answer, the only answer, and they have 20, 30, even 100 ingredients to prove it! Of course, when you logically think about this, the fact is that you have to wonder, how could you fit the clinically proven amounts of hundreds of ingredients into just a few pills! You couldn’t. Of course, you can get the right amounts with a certain number. But it’s not as big as you think, unless you want to take 20 or 30 pills a day of course!

Are Baked Potatoes Healthy? - September 25th, 2009

The white potatoes don’t need to be orange or in other words the sweet potato to be healthy. Potatoes of all varieties are among the best foods we can eat. Among other foods, white potatoes are an energizing, and healthy source of complex carbohydrates – making them, although many people are under the false belief, a great choice for the weight conscious. I mean, when you look at a potato, it isn’t all that fattening.

What makes it so fattening is all of the butter, sour cream, bacon bits and cheese that you heap on to the potato. A large baked potato can also provide around 25 percent of the recommended daily allowance for vitamin C; nearly 50% more potassium than a banana; has a good amounts of fiber; and B vitamins, especially vitamin B6. I recently learned that potatoes are very helpful when it comes to curing stomach ulcers and helping with inflamed conditions of the colon. They are also beneficial for people experiencing hemorrhoids because they have high fiber content. So, the next time you have dinner, don’t pass up the potato. Just be careful to add so much of the butter and sour cream.

Cantaloupe as a Diet Supplement - September 25th, 2009

Half of a cantaloupe gives you a whole ton of the essential antioxidants that help fight cancer, heart disease, and premature aging; the wonderful thing about cantaloupe is that it contains more than the recommended daily allowance for beta-carotene, as well as almost 50% more than the recommended daily allowance for vitamin C. Cantaloupe’s high vitamin C content is able to help the body produce collagen, which is really important for skin and tissue repair. I was surprised to learn this but the cantaloupe has more potassium than the potassium-rich banana. The potassium in cantaloupe helps us to eliminate excess sodium. It may keep plaque from sticking to artery walls, which is another cause of high blood pressure and heart disease; and last but not least it helps flush dangerous LDL cholesterol from the body. I like to cut up a cantaloupe into bite size pieces and snack on them throughout the day. It’s always a good idea to snack on fruit when you are hungry, because they help fulfill those hunger pangs and they don’t have a lot of calories, so you don’t need to worry about gaining weight. You can make a cantaloupe smoothie that is a wonderful treat as well, I usually add some frozen strawberries and a banana. They are very tasty and extremely nutritious.

Raw Food Diet - September 19th, 2009

The benefits to eating more raw foods is staggering. Raw food diets have been known to help people detox, lose weight and cure diseases. I have read many articles that showed how people with diabetes were able to get their disease under control by switching to a raw food diet. When we cook our food, the majority of the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients are cooked out of it. A great way to maintain the vegetables nutrients is by juicing. Every day I have a juice drink made out of kale, collard greens, carrots, ginger, apples, and beet greens.

I have a garden where I grow all of these vegetables so they are fresh and alive. When we buy produce from the grocery stores we are buying food that has been sitting on a truck, in a warehouse, and then in the store. The longer the vegetables sit out, the less nutritious they become. If you just can’t grow your own garden, then buy frozen vegetables. They are flash freezed soon after they are picked which locks in the vitamins and minerals. Try and buy your fruits and vegetables from freshly grown, organic farmer’s markets before you buy from large grocery stores.

Trimspa - September 13th, 2009

Trimspa is probably most popular because it was used by Anna Nicole Smith. She used to be the spokesperson for this weight loss pill. I wasn’t very familiar with this product so I did some digging and found out that the product used to contain ephedra, but was changed so that it is now ephedra-free. There isn’t currently a list of ingredients for Trimspa, but what it is known to contain is green tea extract. A lot of people start getting cravings for different foods in the afternoon and so if they were taking Trimspa they would pop a pill to help curb their appetite.

Unfortunately because it contains caffeine and other ingredients like hoodia gordonii it would cause people to experience insomnia, anxiety, palpitations and restlessness. I hate it when I take anything that causes me to experience those symptoms. That is why I try and stay away from coffee, or anything that has caffeine in it. In some people migraine headaches were a problem. Because Trimspa contains glucosamine, people that are allergic to shellfish should not take this product. Glucomannan is considered a bulk-forming laxative and has a tendency to expand in the stomach thereby reducing the appetite by creating a feeling of fullness. I’m kind of on the fence with this supplement after everything I’ve read.

Oats For Weight Loss - September 12th, 2009

The complex carbohydrates and fiber in oats are essential when it comes to helping stabilize blood sugar levels, which benefits many like diabetics as well as anyone that is in search of long-lasting energy. Oats have for a long time been used to treat nervousness, and recent reports show that they really do have calming powers. For example, one study of heavy smokers trying to quit found that withdrawal symptoms were lessened more by an oat extract than by a placebo. The complex carbohydrates and fiber in oats probably contribute to this soothing or calming effect; the oats help steady blood sugar levels and stabilize the mood.

Oats have been known to help control appetite, helping people lose weight, soothe nerves, it’s a great cholesterol reducer, it can ease constipation, it may help prevent heart disease and stroke, and it may also help prevent cancer. Soon after the cholesterol-heart disease information became available, and that oat bran was proved to help reduce cholesterol levels, it seemed like it only took a very short time for oat bran muffins to becomepopular among health-conscious eaters.

Do Pumpkin Seeds Suppress Appetite? - September 11th, 2009

Pumpkin seeds are among the richest plant source for zinc, which is a mineral that’s so very important to the immune system and for growth, healing wounds, and our sense of taste. It has also been linked to prostate health and can lower the risk of bladder stones. From what I’ve recently learned these wonderful seeds are more rich in iron than the flesh of the pumpkin, which includes about 40 percent of the recommended daily allowance needed for men and 27 percent of the recommended daily allowance for women in just a one ounce serving, that’s about the size of one large handful.

That same amount contains 9 grams of protein, as much as is in an ounce of lean meat. Pumpkin seeds are about 73 percent fat (although most of it is the good fat, the unsaturated kind); even though that sounds high, they are still lower in fat than most other seeds or nuts. They contain phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, and a huge amount of fiber (10 grams per ounce), plus they contain some vitamin A. I love eating pumpkin seeds in cereals, especially homemade granola. Eating a handful as a snack is a favorite treat of mine as well. You can add pumpkin seeds to muffins, breads, or anything that you would add nuts to. So enjoy some pumpkin seeds whenever you are able.

Do Protein Supplements Burn Fat? - September 10th, 2009

For those of you out there that want to gain lean muscle mass, protein supplements may be exactly what you need. If you want to build muscle then protein is a must. It helps to repair strained muscle and rejuvenate it as well. There are a lot of people out there that don’t like to swallow pills. If you’re one of them, you can always turn to protein supplement shakes and powders. There are whey isolate protein shakes, whey concentrate and even egg and soy shakes.

I love the chocolate flavored whey isolate protein powder because I can make it into a shake and add a banana. I’ve found that a lot of the body builders out there turn to protein supplements and protein shakes. I don’t particularly like eating  a lot of red meat, so I’ll turn to the protein powders whenever possible. Because there are so many different products out there you should look for the powder that has the right amount of protein, carbs, and fat. If you still can’t make up your mind, check with a nutritionist or if you have a friend that is in to body building that would be a great resource as well.

Vitamins For Weight Loss - September 9th, 2009

Have you ever asked yourself why there are so many diet supplements out there? The first thing that comes to my mind when I ask that question is we supplement our diets with vitamins and minerals because we are too lazy finding and eating the foods richest in those things. Instead of eating the amount of fruits and vegetables needed to get that vitamin C or D or E, we reach for the bottle that we have bought at the local health food store that contains those supplements.

We definitely live in a time where we feel rushed, stressed out and overworked. I think it would be better to take some time out of our busy schedules to prepare foods that are nutritious and healthy. That way you don’t have to spend money on those high priced vitamin supplements. Same goes for diet supplements, instead of buying fat burners, appetite suppressants, and diet pills, why not try and exercise more, drink more water, and just plain eat more healthy. I’m not condoning diet supplements or vitamin supplements, I just think the more natural way is the better way. It is easier for the body to digest food than hard packed supplements.

Arginine & Fat Burning - September 8th, 2009

Some of the foods that have arginine are white flour, gelatin, Carob, nuts, soybeans, chocolate, raw cereals, coconut, meat, oats, peanuts, walnuts, dairy products, wheat, and wheat germ. You may be asking yourself what is arginine? Well, here is what I learned: it is an amino acid. Important in muscle metabolism, it can help in the release of growth hormones, they say it can be great for arthritis, immune system, regulating the enzymes and hormones.

It helps stimulate the pancreas to release insulin. I wasn’t aware of this but apparently when you are stressed out it uses up arginine. If you are experiencing congestive heart failure, decreased athletic performance, infertility, blood pressure, gastitis, or slow wound healing you might be deficient in arginine. So if you are experiencing any of these things try and eat more foods that contain this important amino acid.
